Carsington Water was opened to the public in May 1992 by Her Majesty the Queen. a 741-acre reservoir, it is popular for watersports, wildlife watching and the events on offer at the Visitor Centre.

Carsington Water Visitor Centre has excellent exhibitions, plenty of information, a shop, education centre and café.

Carsington Water is owned and operated by Severn Trent Water and used to store and replenish water to and from the River Derwent.
